Who Is Alex Hendy? Schooldays to Professional Football days!

Alex Hendy has had a rocky path in professional rugby. He was released from Worcester Warriors’ Academy where he played for Northampton Saints as a centre, but impressed coaches as a full-back with Saints Under-18s.

He signed his first pro contract in the summer of 2021 after being recruited for his performances. When the opportunity came, Hendy made a splash as he earned his first match honours in the Premiership Rugby Cup, taking his senior debut against London Irish in November 2021. Incredibly, he scored four tries in his first three senior games, before his first senior Premiership game against Bristol Bears in April 2022.

Prior to Saints, Hendy has been playing junior rugby for Shipston-on-Stour RFC, in which he was a teammate of Fin Smith, fly half for both Northampton and England.

Alex Hendy’s Outstanding 2026 Season

Hendy’s breakthrough season has been the 2026 campaign, which has seen him deliver some memorable performances.

His best game of the season has come against Bristol Bears as Northampton scored four tries in one of their top scoring games of the season. Hendy finished with a hat trick in the 52nd minute, before adding his fourth in an outstanding performance.

He also had three opportunities to score a try in the Premiership Final against Exeter in which he scored two key tries. The first followed a great pass from Alex Mitchell and the second was Hendy’s efforts charging onto Fin Smith’s grubber kick for a converting kick to extend Saints’ lead.

He has proven to be a very versatile player, appearing on the wing in six of his 18 starts for Northampton Saints and England A, and at full-back in 12. When asked about his job, Hendy commented:

I’m quite open. If I get on the pitch with one number or another, it doesn’t matter I’m happy.

England Ambitions Growing in 2026

Alex Hendy’s excellent performances put him definitely on the England Rugby radar. He has said that he has had talks with the England coaching setup and would hope to get a senior international call up due to his performances.

There are a number of factors that make his case even stronger:

  • Adaptability between full-back and wing position.
  • Excellent pace, finishing and attacking levels.
  • Play in the dynamic Northampton back three with George Furbank and Tommy Freeman as the centre-backs with players moving to their right and left regularly during games.

It’s not a secret that Hendy wants to make his ambitions clear.

“It’s the dream of every player to play for their country and I think that’s the best place I could be pushing towards England honours.”

Career Breakthrough and Playing Style

Hendy was one of the up-and-coming stars of the Premiership in the 2023/24 season. He has made 25 appearances and was named Player-of-the-Match in the Gallagher Premiership Final when he created the winning opportunity for Alex Mitchell to score the try that ended Northampton’s wait for major silverware after 10 years.

Hendy also got some good experience earlier in his career when he was loaned to Bedford Blues.

He has two key themes to his game:

  • Explosive pace
  • Clinical finishing
  • Excellent positional awareness
  • High rugby intelligence
  • A sense of confidence in 1:1 interactions

Hendy has revealed his attacking mentality by stating:

When seeing particular aspects of personnel, you request for the ball and make stuff occur.

  • Alexander Hendricks is an MBA student at IESE Business School.
  • Join Advanced Light Source User Executive Committee in 2026, Alex Ditter.

The inclusion of additional terms like “rugby” or “England” in your search for Alex Hendy can be useful to find the right person.

What’s Next for Alex Hendy?

Alex Hendy has been setting the bar high with Northampton Saints. He has helped the club win Premiership titles and make it to major finals and will now look to make even better memories.

He has said:

We want to make more memories with this group, we want to repeat that that we did two seasons ago in the Premiership.

2026 could be that year as England tour overseas in the summer and have opportunities for selection in international games, with a further Premiership season looming. He is already one of the most talented young players to emerge from English rugby thanks to his versatility, speed, and big game ability.

Josh Kempinski is also an award-winning wildlife photographer. His photographs focus on species and ecosystems that are not commonly photographed, especially in Vietnam’s rare primates and biodiversity hotspots.

Josh Kempinski’s Conservation Philosophy

A key tenet of Josh Kempinski’s philosophy of conservation is that:

The good news is global trends are depressing and the only way to achieve sustainability is to think global, but act local, and if we can measure success at a local level, then we know we are making a difference. The only way we’ll turn the tide on the global biodiversity crisis is via a lot more local success!

This view recognizes that the issue is global, and effective solutions can start at the local level. Kempinski believes that measurable results in the conservation of communities and ecosystems set the stage for environmental progress.

He also says that today’s conservationist leaders need to be “a Jack of all trades,” dealing with fundraising, fieldwork, policy and discussion, scientific research and analysis, and day-to-day management of the organization.
